Designed by DS17, Alpha Restaurant was the first to open in the redevelopment of a 1880s church on Castlereagh St, Sydney. Vacant since the 1950s, the site has just undergone a $4m renovation transforming it into an impressive, spacious and warm dining space. Fusing new and old Greece, the design highlights the heritage features including the sky high ceilings, exposed columns and bare brick.
Upholstered armchairs and custom made banquet seating are set among generous sized tables to ensure comfort during the dining experience. Many critics have given Alpha Restaurant’s interior space a big tick. Terry Durack named the ‘high drama fitout’ the best bit in the Good Food Guide.
Having worked with DS17 for a number of years, Design Nation was excited to embark on their next project, Alpha Restaurant. Design Nation and DS17 worked closely to finalise each furniture piece that would fill the main restaurant and house all diners. It was about seating guests to create the perfect dining experience. The colour palette was soft and warm, ensuring guests felt relaxed and comfortable while experiencing the food and enjoying their company.
The fitout team were on a tight schedule for completion, which is always a challenge when providing custom furniture that is hand-made in Australia and imported from Italy. Design Nation and DS17 managed schedules across all suppliers and manufacturers to ensure all furniture for Alpha Restaurant was ready for the opening.
The result included comfortable dining chairs with soft grey upholstery, luxurious banquet seating and warm Australian timber and marble tables creating perfect settings to seat diners within the space.
DS17 are a talented team with an amazing ability to deliver a refined and well executed interior. In working with them, Design Nation knew that the fitout would be one to put Alpha Restaurant on the map.
